MLM Lead Generation – by Blogging

One way to do your own MLM Lead Generation is by Blogging! Would you like an easier way to build your internet network marketing business?  Perhaps you have spent hundreds of dollars on generic leads, found hardly anyone interested, and now you have nothing to show for all the money spent. As a network marketer, it is difficult enough speaking to people you don’t know, let alone having to put up with rejections from people who don’t want to hear about your offer.  In this article, we are going to discuss how to start a blog. A blog is one of the simplest and easiest ways to generate your own qualified leads.

A Blog is a Web Based Journal used to write (log) about different topics.  It is just a website, set up to make it easy for you to create.  Some advantages of blogs are:

  • Blogs are very Easy to Create.  They are highly flexible in the way they are designed, which makes it easy for anyone to create one, and for others to comment on it. Blogs are really just Web sites, set up to make it easy for people to create. Each blog post is a separate Web Page.   There are numerous Blog Platforms to choose from, and bloggers require little knowledge to set one up.
  • Blogs are Ranked High on Search Engines. The Search Engines love blogs because their content changes frequently, and search engines rank fresh content highly. Because each post is counted as a separate web page, the Search Engines see this as a new update.
  • They are  Inexpensive – The overheads of a Blog are very low. The main cost is time. Web hosting is doesn’t cost much.
  • Blogs are ideal for creating a community and building relationships.  They make it easy to form a relationship with people, because of the comments at the end of each post. A person can comment on your blog post, and you can reply back to them.
  • Blogs are well suited for Niches (more about niches later). If one (or 2 related) niches are used, it’s easier for readers and also easier to get ranked high in the search engines.

There are 2 decisions to make before creating a Blog: One is to discover your niche, and the second decision is to choose a platform.

Discover Your Niche

Before creating a blog it is important to find your niche. On the internet, a “niche” and a keyword phrase is the same thing.  Keyword phrases are the words people type into a search engine when they want to find some kind of information on the internet.

When selecting your keyword phrase, think about the market you are going to address.  Is your blog for people who want to start a network marketing business?  Will your blog address people who want to know about working in the travel industry, or people working with health and nutrition, or people who are interested in looking after the environment. Is your blog targeted towards people who want to start a business or towards people who may want to purchase one of your products?

The following topics are examples of large markets, which are very competitive, so we do not recommend focusing on markets like these:

Network Marketing

Home Business

Travel Industry

Health

Environment

For you to have a competitive advantage, you must narrow your focus.  To do this, use the free google adwords tool to help discover your niche.  Type in a keyword within the market you’ve chosen.  For example, type in “network marketing” and search for all the synonyms of the words “network marketing”.  Look for keywords that have a reasonable number of searches each month.  Then, go to the google search engine, and look at how many other web pages are competing for the keyword phrases you have chosen.

It is wise to select a keyword phrase that has a reasonable number of searches each month, and has fairly low competition.  This way, you will be able to optimize your blog quickly, and receive visitors within a fairly short period of time.

Choose a Blog Platform

A Blog Platform is the Software Application (or tool) used to create your blog. Each of these applications have their own advantages and disadvantages.  When choosing a platform, consider the following:

  • Your Technical Expertise or whether your have access to a technical person, or have the money to pay someone.
  • The intention for your blog. If you intend to make money with your blog, it’s worth investing some money for one which you’ll be happy with in the long term.
  • Flexibility of the Blog itself – can you adapt it the way you want?
  • Are there Template Constraints – that is, do you have a choice of different designs?
  • Money available to spend on your Blog. The Free Blogs have risks associated with them. They can receive a lot of spam, the Web Host often puts their own advertising on there, and they are not always flexible. “Free” often means paying in the long term.  There are many free places to host blogs..

There are 2 main kinds of Platforms

1.    Web Based Applications which are controlled by the Web Host. These are much less flexible, although usually easier to use.

2.    Server Side web based application where you upload some software to a web host and adapt it to what you want. These applications are more technical, and may take some time to learn how to use them.  However, there are some which are extremely easy to set up.  Some applications will set up a fully optimized blog for you in just a few steps.

Web based applications are usually free and you can write your blog posts on a community’s piece of real estate.  The advantages of a web  based platform are:

1)    It’s usually free.

2)    The blog is set up for you, and you just add content to it.

3)    Being part of a community often allows your blog to be seen more quickly by the search engines.

4)    As part of a community, your blog may get traffic from the rest of the community.

The disadvantages of a web based application are:

1)    It is not  flexible – you cannot change the blog to suit yourself and you will be limited with what you can do to optimize it for the search engines.

2)    You will have to abide by the community’s terms and conditions. If you break one of their rules, your blog will just disappear into cyber-space, never to be seen by anyone again.  Sometimes community rules are not defined well, and you may break them inadvertently, and lose years of work.

3)   Occasionally, a community will close down whenever it wants to, and you will be left with nothing for all the work you’ve done.  In addition, all your post and page links will disappear, along with the rest of the community.

A  Server Side Application -  Self Hosted Blog

With a server side application, you can purchase hosting, which is a space to put your own piece of real estate.  This hosting can cost as little as $10 a month.  Advantages of a server side (sometimes called self hosted) blog are:

1)    You will own the real estate and whatever work you’ve done to it.

2)    Flexible – you can do whatever you want to your blog. Things can be added to make it more optimized for the search engines.

3)    You can post whatever you like on your blog, and you don’t have to follow any rules or conditions.

4)    Your blog will exist as long as you pay for your web hosting. It’s your piece of real estate forever, if that’s what you want.

We have discussed blogs and the two decisions to make before creating your blog.  Both these decisions are important and if chosen carefully, will save you a lot of time and effort once your blog is created.  Blogging  is one of the best MLM Lead Generation methods.
