Introduction to Markets and Keyword Research

Market Samurai is the tool I speak about in the Next video on how to research keywords and the competition.

If you have a strong understanding of keyword research and how it relates to marketing on the internet, you might want to skip this training and move on to learning about the tool we use to discover the keywords for our market. However, it’s a good idea to at least go through this quickly to clarify what you already know.

This lesson is written out below, or you’re welcome to watch the video here:

A market is a segment of the population who:

* Have a common desire or need.
* Have the money to purchase.
* Are motivated to acquire a product or an opportunity that meets their need or desire.

Market segments are often defined in terms of niches. A niche is effectively a segment of a market, for example:

* Market: People interested in a Business Opportunity
* Mega Niche: People interested in a Home Business Opportunity
* Niche: People interested in an Internet Home Business Opportunity
* Micro Niche: People interested in an MLM Internet Home Business opportunity

On the Internet, market and keyword research are the same thing. This is because on the Internet, people with a common need or desire can be defined by the keywords that are commonly and regularly used by people within that specific market.

On the Internet, you can actually target people who had a specific need by focusing on the keywords they usually enter to find that need. Offline, it’s much more difficult to target a specific market.

Not all keywords are equal though. Some have a lot more traffic than others, and some have more competing web pages. With the keyword “business Opportunity” there are millions of pages online, whereas for the keyword “mlm internet home business opportunity” there are much fewer pages.

As an internet network marketer, you are also interested in whether those keywords have commercial value. A group of people with a common need or desire and looking to buy something (a product or an opportunity), are probably going to use certain keywords. This is an indication of whether they are interested in buying or not.

For example, people who search for free content and use the word free as a modifier in their keyword search, are most likely less interested to buy something. If someone is looking for a free business opportunity, it’s unlikely that they will be the kind of person you want to attract.

Your goal is to find the keywords that are used by a large enough group of people who are willing to join an opportunity or buy a product. This product or opportunity must relate to the keywords/market being searched for, and must have an acceptable level of web page competition.
