Squidoo and More Changes

by julieanne on July 16, 2009

I just noticed that Squidoo have implemented some more changes on lenses. If you have a look at one of the Squidoo lenses, you will see that certain keywords (the actual keywords change when you refresh the page) The keywords are displayed in green, as in the image below:

When you hold your mouse cursor over the link, a popup infolink advert is displayed. It looks like the image below:

These changes at Squidoo will have implications for people creating lenses. The Squidoo company has worked hard with their marketing, and they are within their rights to implement any advertising they want.

However, this most recent change makes a big difference between posting educational information on Squidoo and having a blog of your own. If you have a blog of your own, it’s your own real estate and you can do what you like. Using other people’s real estate (like Squidoo) means “sharing” advertising and complying with rules.

You may think this advertising is good because the lens owner can (if they choose) receive a portion of the advertising revenue. However, this portion is Infinitesimal compared to the money you can make from advertising on your own real estate.

So… what do you think about these changes Squidoo has implemented?

Recently, there was some other Squidoo policy news announced, which you can read by clicking here

Your online trainings post is very nice. Get best programs for the online Business Training course of affiliate and business to get success in life.
  • I just posted some instructions for preventing the Squidoo Text ads from appearing on your Squidoo Lens, it's easy once you know how...

  • An update on the Squidoo changes. Looks like they are just testing. And, you can opt out of them, although it's painful:-)
  • I hope they are only testing it to see if it will pay off. I don't like it at all.

I don't see myself posting a lot of content on squidoo if they keep that policy in place.

I agree Eric, I don't like the adverts either! There are plugins you can install on Wordpress.org blogs (the blogs you install yourself), where you can do that. However, I don't like having adverts popping up everywhere, I think it's very distracting for the reader.
  • I don't like the adverts. I will more than likely never post to Squidoo again.

I appreciate this post because I was confused as to why those adverts were there in the first place. I suppose I hadn't read those changes close enough.

I even went to the extreme of ... say for example... I saw that "Network Marketing" in one of my Squidoos was a green-linked advert, I took out the "i" in "marketing" to get rid of it, and it did go away.

But much to my disappointment, another word popped up with the green-link.

Nope, I severely dislike that particular change at Squidoo. There are a lot of quality places to post content.

    Thanks Julieanne.

Thanks for this, I hadn't noticed the keywords and adverts on the lenses. This is even more reason to have your own blog.
